Maybe old textbooks would be of interest to someone who took a certain subject in college like biology or geology

Try to put them on craigslist or freecycle...I am sure that there must be collectors of old reference books out there who will give them a good home

Keep them! They are great for historic reference purposes! I have a set from 1930, and it is interesting to see the old photos of what some of the cities looked like back then, especially since many former landmarks were either torn down for alleged "city improvements" in the US or destroyed during WWII in Europe.

Exactly! Sometimes it's even more convenient to use an old-fashioned book because a lot of info is at your fingertips without googling a bunch of stuff. Plus it's easier on your eyes. But if a book is too worn-out it is always good to re-purpose it.

The old encyclopedias are fun to look at...its the latest information at the time (cities, science, archaeology, history )
