Anyone who has actually lived with evaporative cooling will tell you, as I am, that it will actually bring the temperature down by about 20 degrees. If you are living in an area with moderate temperatures this is enough. If however you live in the desert it is not. Bringing the temperature from 95 to 75 is quite comfortable but bringing it from 120 to 100, well, not so much. Evaporative cooling is not a universal answer.
