Back in the day when I was in college (Harvard, 1706), we used to hook up for rides via a ride board- anyone who was headed somewhere and wanted passengers, or someone who needed a ride would post their dates and itinerary and hopefully connect. It was a little hit or miss and definitely limited to folks on or near campus. But now there’s Road Sharing.
Road Sharing.com is a site where you can hitch a ride- safely and securely- online. Florence, Italy-based website RoadSharing.com, where travelers can arrange share rides for free, has seen a huge spike in traffic from travelers trying to get to destinations all over Europe. How many people travel in their car alone for work, study, or shopping, several times a week? RoadSharing.com is an easy way to find someone to share a trip with, is a meeting point between those offering and those looking for a lift and it is a great way to save money and fuel, reduce pollution and CO2, pollute less and meet new friends.
Once you sign up you can add rides, search for rides, and find out about events. Right now it seems to be primarily Europe based, but an idea as good as this won’t stay on the Continent for long- it’ll emigrate to the States, Canada- anywhere folks are looking to hit the road- together.
