Market Haul: Dried Cranberry Beans

By |

Find out what I’m hauling home from the Greenmarket each week!

I’m ringing in the new year with a new column. Every week, I'll be here to chronicle my Sunday Greenmarket haul — sharing inspirations, recipes, pictures, and assorted seasonal-inspired musings I learn along the way. Follow along with my seasonal journey here, starting with my latest market find, dried cranberry beans.

Market Haul Week 1

Despite freezing temperatures, the show (a.k.a. the Carroll Gardens Greenmarket) must go on. This past weekend, farmers were in full force and shoppers were braving the cold with their market bags in tow. With a diminishing selection of leafy greens and an influx of root vegetables on offer, a table of handsomely organized dried beans took the prize for the weekend’s offering. As I swiftly picked out a pint-size basket of cranberry beans, I began dreaming up the squash and bean minestrone I’d be eating for dinner.

What are you hauling home from your farmers market this week? More importantly, what are you making with your green treasures?

No farmers markets here during the winter so I'm using food stored from the summer especially from my garden. Sweet potatoes keep all winter on a shelf in my basement.

That's awesome LeeAnn! How did you preserve your summer harvest? I tried freezing extra greens and fruit, too. It's such a treat to pull out frozen peaches for a cobbler in the dead of winter! Would love to hear your tips!!
