Don't forget well-dried horse and cow manure. I let it dry until it looks like well-mulched hay, scoop it into a bay and layer it over vegetable waste. NO cat litter or dog feces! So much fun to watch those scraps turn into "black gold", especially if you know everything is organic. No fertilizer or pesticides other than those that are organic , if used at all. Banana peels (cut up), crushed egg shells, tea and coffee grounds, carrot peels, the cabbage I forgot about (oops), shredded parchment paper, lint from the dryer--all turn into beautiful black soil loaded with nutrients! Fun, fairly fast, and cheap. I love composting!
