My mom uses material from old clothing and uses the material as rags to wipe around in the kitchen. Washed them to be reused again.

I use clothing that cannot be reused--and scraps--to make doll clothes, or for cleaning cloths. When my mother died, I rescued my cloth diapers that she had been using for cleaning for 50 years and continued using them in MY house. Istill have them 15 years later.

I volunteer for an organization that collects computers and then refurbishes them for reuse and those that cannot be fixed are broken down and the respective parts are recycled. At home I have refused plastic grocery bags for 30+ years and only use cloth. All of my cloth bags were free--so many places give them away. Thrift stores are my favorite place to get just about anything.

I was just about to say the same thing about many stores having cloth bags and if you watch they will have bargains on them where they will end up being free. My parents were farmer who lived through the great depression. I credit them for teaching me, "Waste Not. Want Not."

My mother grew up in the Great Depression, also. One of her favorite sayings was: Use it up, wear it out, make it do or do without.

      That's a great one.
