There are some companies that will take the old appliances and will pay you a small amount for them.

My small fridge is about 15 years young and i'm not sure how many more years I can get out of it. Once it's done I'm going to contact the nearest recycling site to see if they can haul it away.

I recently purchased a refurbished cell phone. I haven't done anything with my old one yet, but I'll be finding a proper place to take it to be sure it can be recycled or disposed of safely.
