Greenly: Napa Valley Scrapbook

Check out highlights from my recent trip to Napa Valley — in full eco-friendly fashion.

Are you planning your summer vacation yet? I just got back from Napa Valley, and it’s a real gem! Whether you’re wine tasting, dining at a renowned restaurant or pampering yourself at the spa, it turns out Napa Valley is not only as luxurious, but just as eco-conscious, of a destination as it gets. Here are a few snapshots of my wine country favorites!

Located in a charming backstreet in St. Helena, Cindy’s Backstreet Kitchen serves fresh seasonal ingredients and dishes all made from scratch. The local produce procured for this restaurant is supplemented by an organic garden cultivated by the chef herself! The vibe and menu at the restaurant is incredibly unpretentious and equally soulful. If it’s nice out, be sure to ask for a seat on the patio under the fig tree!

Wineries in Napa and Sonoma Valley have been committed leaders within the eco-movement. Many wineries are using a combination of green techniques (think solar power and biodynamic farming). My favorites from the trip included Schramsberg Vineyards and Benziger Winery. Schramsberg is a certified Napa Green winery and is home of one of Napa’s largest solar arrays.

The Solage in Calistoga has been on my hotel bucket list for a long while. Not only are the grounds stunning but they are one of the first Napa Valley resorts to put in place a wide range of programs to promote an eco-friendly ethos — from having electronic charging stations on-site to using salt-based water filtration systems to reduce chemicals in the pools throughout the facility.

Since there was a lot of driving through the valley planned, we opted to rent a hybrid. The hotel also offered cruiser bikes, which we made good use of when exploring nearby wineries and shops!

I’m always looking for my next adventure! Do you have a favorite eco-conscious destination? Share your travel ideas with me in the comments below.
