The act of choosing local vs. imported or sustainably vs. conventionally grown has the same consequences whether we’re talking about raspberries or roses. While flowers may seem like a quick, impulse buy or an irregular luxury, how and where those natural beauties are grown makes a big difference!
While signs and labels help us navigate the supermarket aisles to find the products and produce we’re after, fresh flowers rarely offer their country of origin, let alone their name, begging the question - where do we find “slow” flowers? As I continue to figure out the answer to this question myself, I figure there’s no better place than your local green market! So, this past weekend I had a look to see what my favorite farmers had to offer. With spring in full swing, the options are pretty spectacular:
