Greenly: Farm Subscriptions

By |

Joining a CSA makes supporting your local farmers easier than ever.

Let’s be honest, we love the subscription revolution. Netflix, Birchbox, Zipcar… you name it, we’ll join it. So, perhaps it’s time to consider adding another weekly subscription plan to your arsenal: A share of produce from your local farm.

While strolling through the local farmer’s market is a Sunday ritual I can’t kick, this summer I decided I was ready to take the plunge and commit to a weekly box of goodies by joining a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture). When you become a member of a CSA, you’re purchasing a “share” of vegetables from a regional farmer. Weekly or bi-weekly, your farmer will deliver your share of produce to a drop-off location in your neighborhood, making it easier to support local producers if you’re not able to make it to the greenmarket.

While joining a CSA is a commitment (note that’s coming from a biased veggie-lover like myself), you can’t beat getting a box full of seasonal veggies, fruits, and artisanal products.

As I begin my pick-ups, I’ll keep you apprised of my weekly haul here on Greenly. Want to know how I used those two pounds of carrots I received last week? Or pick up some tips for storing these hauntingly gorgeous strawberries? Then stay tuned…

Until next time, try finding a CSA near you!

we just joined for the first time and are getting our first delivery on Tuesday. There are only two of us so we split the membership with the family next door. This csa, called farmthisway, is in Brant NY and they deliver to your door! They are also going to lend us some chickens. Two of their "girls" will be spending the week with us at the end of July. We are looking forward to fresh eggs and lots of fun. We bought the short, 15 week, membership but have been following what those who bought the long membership has been getting. This is going to be fantastic! We are devoted to organic and recycling.
